10 Cloverfield Lane Spoilers Alert!
It was interesting that I thought this film was going to be related to the found footage film Cloverfield. But it totally is not, it is its own thing. I was surprised. Basically, the plot is about a woman named Michelle (played by Mary Elizabeth Winstead) who was driving after an argument with her fiancé and she suddenly gets into a car accident. Then, she wakes up in a concrete room chained, and approached by a man named Howard played by John Goodman. Howard claims an attack has happened and he saved her from side of the road. Michelle meets another survivor named Emmett (John Gallagher Jr) who has witnessed the attack. Howard claims to not go outside because the air is unbreathable. Michelle tries to hatch up a plan to escape as Howard is not what he seems. This is far as I will go because it is amazing to see it happen.
There are many great things about this film. First, the suspense in the film is put in really well and the timing is perfect. Two, the twists in the film particularly the end is one of the best parts of the film. Third, I need to mention John Goodman's performance was amazing. It was amazing that he did the non-good guy role really well as he usually plays the nice guy. His performance has a great balance of creepiness and sinister with a bit of paranoia. I truly praise his performance as I felt it stole the show. Of course, the rest of the cast is good, but John Goodman to me really stood out. The con that I would mention is the pacing can be slow at times, but its not terrible since the pacing gave me time to feel the suspense and it does give a building effect. The ending is full of surprises as the reason of the attack is not at all what I expected.
Generally, it is a good film. I do recommend to it to people who love psychological horror or want to watch something different. Maybe, even fans of science fiction would like it. I feel it is one of the good films of 2016. Come see it for yourself.
